Northern Harmony is a shifting collaboration of accomplished singers and instrumentalists, based in Vermont, which has won a wide reputation for its powerful sound, relaxed and spontaneous stage presence, and eclectic repertoire of music from choral traditions around the world. This incarnation of the ensemble is a quartet of four powerful women singers, all professional performers and teachers in their own right, including Northern Harmony’s co-director Patty Cuyler. Rounding out the quartet are Mollie Stone, conductor at the University of Chicago and Director of World Music at the Chicago Children’s Choir, Suzannah Park, a third-generation singer of American ballads and folksongs, and Emily Miller, old-time country singer and fiddler with the Sweetback Sisters. This compilation of live concert recordings from the group’s January, 2015 tour in Illinois & Massachusetts features an eclectic mix of harmony singing on the subjects of love, loss, praise and cold weather, with music from the Renaissance performed alongside traditional duets, trios and quartets from the United States, Georgia, Corsica, Sweden and South Africa.
