Village Harmony in South Africa in 2007
From co-director Patty Cuyler: "Recently I went on a hunt for video tapes from our last camp in South Africa that I had never viewed, because I needed a reminder about how the dance to one of the songs we learned went and hoped to find a video of it. Right away I was smitten by the almost-complete film of our final performance in Polokwane, Limpopo Province, a joint concert with our hosts, Matlakala Bopape's Polokwane Chorale, who I had taught 'Stormy Weather' to in an earlier rehearsal. It was so extremely moving to see our interaction on stage that night when both choirs joined to sing--the complete and intimate honestly that tied us all together in the joy of sharing the moment and the music and the singing from the depths of our selves. Over and over we experience this with Village Harmony--this is what singers love about singing and traveling with us, and keep returning for--and we hear it time and again expressed by our audiences; but I rarely get to experience it from both viewpoints like this. My gratitude to the oboe player from our pit orchestra who took these for me."
